Sore Dove

Kids say the darnedest things, don’t they? As a dad of soon to be eight I know that in fact they do. My daughter Amelia came up with a funny phrase when she was younger that has stuck with me through the years. That phrase was ‘sore dove’. She was trying to say ‘sort-of’ but the blessing from that mis pronounced sentence has been a ‘sort-of’ symbol of what I do.

From a personal perspective I am often a man that is seen as a person of agitation and aggravation. Particularly when it comes to false religions and politics. The sore dove had become my blogging signature. So, it has stayed with me ever since. Now it has become the name that my fluid music group is called as well. Sore Dove is a band that includes all music genres and styles. We are well rounded. But, the underlying directive is that Jesus Christ is glorified.

This year the Sore Dove group features some talent that comes from my past. Jimmy Luke has been with me since the beginning of playing with a band. Chuck Raye is a former classmate from school. Ryan Johnson, however, is a someone I met through a business transaction and seems to really know his stuff. My daughter Jeannie is playing the keyboards and a young man named Jon Turpin will be on vocals. This group is a culmination of panic and frantic organisation and on the first rehearsal together, really seemed to gel. On the first Dai of Hope we did a great performance with very few issues. For the short amount of time we had it was an overall success.

So now I have been working on the future of Sore Dove in my mind and was concerned about it- I do not want it to go away. I have decided- it won’t. In fact the group is going to be fluid in that there will never be a set membership, except for yours truly, but will have its core members for as long as they can bear with me. Also, the music will not be set either. Jazz, country, blues, rock, alternative, folk, and even praise and worship are all par for the course. The one stipulation for all of the other genres though will be that they will all be songs that honor God and His name. It is also in the plans to have as many Stine’s participating as possible. Samuel will be playing guitar the next time round and maybe a few other Stine’s will join in.

Here are some photos from Sore Dove during the first Dai of Hope campaign.
